Brief overview 

Registered as a historic monument in 2020, Colbert Bridge will be undergoing a complete restoration. Its structure, comprising a mixture of the original puddled steel and post-war steel, is in very poor condition and is going to be restored. We are also going to renovate its road surface and enlarge the pavements to give access to people with restricted mobility.  

Civil engineering works are also planned: repairs to the paving of the bridge’s turning circle, restoration of the stairs, the travel stops and the top-section of the quay... as well as the restoration of the operator’s cabin and the renovation of the power station façade. Lastly, the operation includes installing lighting to illuminate the bridge at night.

The project in brief

The Ouistreham West lock was built between August 1958 and September 1962 to replace the old basin lock dating from 1857. At the beginning of 2019, Ports of Normandy staff noticed that there had been some movement in the structure. Strengthening work was carried out between 2019 and 2021 to keep the lock in normal operation. Now, however, more extensive works are about to begin to comprehensively and durably renovate the lock and guarantee its long-term continued use.

After carrying out extensive geotechnical and structural surveys on and around the structure, at the beginning of this year Ports of Normandy launched a campaign of work with a triple objective: to entirely renovate the West lock by durably securing the mole head at the lock, increasing the length of the quay where the fish is landed and changing the downstream gates whose corrosion protection is due for renewal.

Le projet en bref

Ports de Normandie investit depuis 10 ans dans les énergies marines renouvelables à Cherbourg. Grâce à 100 M€ investis, le port s’est doté d’un vaste espace industriel unique en France, qui a permis la création de 800 emplois et l’implantation d’une usine pour l’éolien en mer. Face à la montée en puissance de cette filière, le port doit désormais agrandir son quai lourd pour  répondre aux besoins logistiques des futurs grands parcs éoliens.

C’est dans ce contexte qu’est lancé le projet de construction d’un nouveau quai lourd, baptisé "Flamands 0", pour rééquilibrer les capacités entre le foncier disponible et les quais existants. Ce futur quai de 140 mètres de long, capable de supporter 20 tonnes/m², sera installé en petite rade, à proximité de l'actuel quai des Flamands. Il offrira une profondeur d’eau de 14 mètres, idéale pour les grands composants des parcs éoliens, et permettra d’accueillir plusieurs escales simultanées, condition indispensable à la montée en charge des projets.

Dans le cadre du projet Adaptation du port de Cherbourg au développement des EMR - projet d'extension du quai des Flamands 0 (FLO), une concertation préalable est organisée pour informer le public et recueillir ses avis, sous l'égide de la Commission Nationale du Débat Public (CNDP) et de ses deux garants :

Réunion publique d’ouverture

Cette réunion marquera le lancement officiel de la concertation. Elle a pour objectif de :

• Exposer ses enjeux

• Détailler les finalités attendues de la démarche participative
