CHERLOC project

Brief overview

CHERLOC is a national project which aims to propose maritime protection structures for limiting the impact of flooding along the French coast.

As a partner in this project, Ports of Normandy has made available an area either side (inside and outside) of the east breakwater at Cherbourg for the installation of two types of artificial blocks, and another area situated to the west of the entrance channel to the Port of Caen-Ouistreham (west breakwater, ferry terminal) for the installation of two artificial blocks.

A multi-disciplinary project

It involves a regional maritime works company (MARC SA), a research and design company (ARTELIA), an engineering school (Builders for society), three research laboratories (CERREV, BOREA, M2C) at Caen University, the latter being project leader, and Ports of Normandy.
